Freight Shipping From India To Australia

When you import products from India into Australia, you need to decide whether air freight or sea freight is the better option for transporting your load the 5,500-plus kilometres between the two countries. There are several factors which may affect how you decide to ship your consignment.

  1. Cost – air freight is generally more expensive to arrange than sea freight
  2. Timeframe – ocean travel takes at least five times longer than air
  3. Buyer’s preference – your buyers in Australia may prefer you to use one transportation method over the other
  4. Type of goods – bulky, heavy and oversize items are better suited to ocean shipping from India to Australia. This is because cargo ships are bigger than planes and are more versatile in terms of capacity

TSL is here to help – we’ll advise you on which method makes most sense according to your company’s needs and budget.

Prohibitions On Indian Exports

The import of certain products into Australia is controlled by the Australian government. These items are either completely prohibited or restricted. For restricted items including antibiotics, cigarette lighters, pornography, pesticides, and certain cosmetics, you will need written permission in order to be able to import them. Being in breach of the law can mean fines of up to AU $525,000 and/or ten years’ imprisonment. For more information, please click here.
