Looking for heavy transport for tall, heavy or oversize equipment? If you need to arrange heavy haulage in Adelaide, look to Melbourne-based freight forwarder TSL. Our domestic transport services serve businesses from a wide range of industries including renewable energy, manufacturing, and mining. We can arrange heavy transport in Adelaide, throughout South Australia, and in the wider national zone.
Heavy haulage is the transportation of large materials, equipment or goods by road. TSL Australia helps companies shift cargo such as car carriers, yachts, earth-moving equipment, pressure vessels, agriculture machinery, and cranes as part of its service offering heavy haulage in Adelaide. When a regular curtainsider truck is not large or sturdy enough, special lorries are used. These are stronger and have special features that enable them to safely carry larger quantities of stock or pieces of machinery that are oversize, high or awkward.
TSL transports a wide range of project cargo types including shipping containers, portable buildings, generator units, cranes, dump trucks and railway carriages. If you’re in need of heavy haulage in Adelaide or anywhere else in Australia, get in touch today to discuss your consignment.
Rigids: Rigid lorries have at least two (and up to five) axles fitted to the frame. They are used to transport large items across well-maintained roads.
Articulated trucks: These can handle bumpier roads and are more flexible due to a pivot joint which allows them to navigate bends in the road more easily.
Flat-bed trucks: These are rigid lorries with flat trailers, often used for transporting large, bulky items such as concrete pipes or steel girders. Cargo may be contained within blocks or lashed to impede movement during transit.
Side-loaders: This type of truck can be loaded from the side, making it easier when there’s limited space.
Prime movers: These heavy-duty towing engines are designed to haul trailered loads.
Low-loaders: With two drops in their deck height, these semi-trailers can be used to accommodate taller loads such as heavy equipment such as bulldozers.
To ensure safety when vehicles reach top speeds and turn tight corners, some of our vehicles can be steered from the back. Vehicles will usually be accredited under Australia’s NHVAS (National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme).
As well as the vehicles themselves, we use a wide range of equipment to help us load, unload and transport your consignment. Here are a few examples:
Forklifts: These small industrial trucks are used to move small pieces of cargo over short distances. They are also used for loading and unloading goods to and from larger vehicles.
Cranes: Used to lift loads that cannot be rolled on and off the transportation vehicle.
Platform/flat-bed trailers: These are attached to the back of prime movers or articulated trucks to transport loads or equipment. In most cases, they can be loaded and unloaded from the sides.
Jinkers and Dollys: These trailer extensions are added to the main vehicle in order to maximize weight-lifting capacity and distribute the load. Jinkers are typically used to transport logs.
